Anhydrite Talc

Talc is a soft stone used for art and sculptures. Anhydrite is an evaporite mineral that occurs in extensive layered deposits in sedimentary basins where large volumes of seawater have been evaporated.  Anhydrite is an anhydrous calcium sulfate. It is closely related to gypsum.

Sea

This rock was originally covered in moss. I wanted to keep the moss in the sculpture but did not get around to carving it for years. When I was ready to work on it, the moss was not. The moss finally dried up. Without a plan, I began clearing off the rough spots and the dead moss. The colors that came through are awesome, reminding me of the clear waters of the sea. I left the inside unpolished to show the natural stone.
