Colorado Yule Marble
I have a large collection of saved fallen feathers, so it was natural and inevitable that I would carve some feathers into marble.

I didn't quite like this piece but others did, so I took it to the base shop anyway. When he was drilling the mounting hole, the bit hit a hard spot but then quickly found a real soft spot. Wow, what a surprise; the stone cracked. He was devastated, I was pleased. Now, I really love the piece. This was originally named Leaf now it is named Split Leaf.

Rosa Portogallo Salmonato Marble
In 1999, we brought this marble back from Carrera, Italy, in a suitcase! It was an interesting piece from a quarry coring. It sat high on my shelf for over two decades. Finally, after deciding I should do something with it, I took it to my studio. Looked at it some more. A Bald Eagle came to mind, so I painted the eagle's head on the stone. Afterward, my husband pointed out the top edge depicted the outline of an Eagle. I must have subconsciously seen that Eagle before I painted it! He also saw a water stream in the grain flowing from the other peak; thus, the painted trees and mountains. And of course, I just had to keep the raw stone and
the drill holes and scratches. It enthralls me how stone is quarried. I am fascinated that I can create new shapes and meanings from stone, even when I leave it alone.
I love how this evolved.

Bunnies, bunnies, bunnies everywhere hopping around my carving station! So why not carve one from Yule Marble. As I was creating, I name him Big Ears, but then added a bowtie (my husbands suggestion, probably because he wears them). Then the suggested names came flooding: Playboy, Hugh, and Puttin' On The Ritz were a few. When you own this whimsical bunny you can call the bunny whatever you want! But I must say Whatever You Want is a very funny name.

Carrera Gold Marble
This is another stone we brought back in a suitcase from our Italy visit in 1999. The block sat on my shelf, floor, counter, wherever there was space. I just could not start chipping without a vision for this precious stone. So I waited and waited, and waited.
Finally, one day in the summer of 2015 walking past the rough stone,
I saw it! This carving was a sheer pleasure to sculpt.
It brings back fond memories. I love petting it!
Yes, I enjoy my sculptures to be experienced not only visually
but also by touch.
